Interieur Foundation
de Interieur Foundation werd opgericht in 1967 in Kortrijk, met als belangrijkste doelstelling 'de promotie van de creativiteit op het gebied van de eigentijdse vormgeving'.
Eén jaar later, in 1968, volgde de eerste editie van de gelijknamige Biënnale voor wooncreativiteit in de toen pas herbouwde 'Hallen' van Kortrijk.
Dit nieuwe tentoonstellingscomplex was niet zomaar een gebouw, maar een 'modelhal' waarbij de plaatselijke industrieën de lat zo hoog hadden gelegd dat Kortrijk het voor die tijd, modernste expogebouw van België kreeg.
Sindsdien wordt de Interieur biënnale telkens in de pare jaren georganiseerd in hetzelfde Hallencomplex, thans 'Kortrijk Xpo', dat door de jaren heen uitgroeide van 1 tot 6 hallen (van 6020 m2 naar 30.815 m2).
De autonome organisatie van de Biënnale, Interieur Foundation, is ontstaan binnen de handelskamer van Kortrijk, waar oorspronkelijk ook de kantoren gelokaliseerd waren. Sinds 1989 is de organisatie gehuisvest in een beschermde 19de-eeuwse patriciërswoning in het centrum van Kortrijk. Dit huis is eveneens van belang voor de sociale geschiedenis van Kortrijk als voormalig waterinstituut voor hydrotherapie.
Sinds 1989 is de organisatie gehuisvest in een beschermde 19de-eeuwse patriciërswoning in het centrum van Kortrijk. In 1994 werd de Interieur Foundation bekroond met een 'eervolle vermelding' in de European Community Design Prize, de hoogste onderscheiding die in deze meest prestigieuze designprijs op Europees niveau aan niet-commerciële instellingen kan worden toegekend.
La Fondation Interieur
La Fondation Interieur a été fondée en1967 à Courtrai, avec pour but principal de 'promouvoir la créativité dans les domaines du design et du développement de produits'.
Un an plus tard, en 1968, la première édition de la Biennale pour la créativité dans l'habitat est organisée aux 'Halles' de Courtrai, fraîchement rénovées.
Plus qu'un simple bâtiment, ce nouveau complexe d'exposition, conçu par des entreprises locales, jouit des innovations de l'époque les plus poussées, permettant à Courtrai de posséder le hall d'exposition le plus moderne de Belgique.
Depuis lors, il abrite toutes les années paires la Biennale Interieur. Le complexe a été nommé 'Kortrijk Xpo' et s'est étendu de 1 à 6 halles (de 6020 m2 à maintenant 30.815 m2).
La Fondation Interieur, organisation autonome de la Biennale, est issue de la chambre de commerce de Courtrai, où se trouvaient à l'origine les bureaux administratifs.
Depuis 1989, l'organisation est installée dans une bâtisse patricienne du 19ème siècle située au centre de Courtrai, qui appartient à l'histoire de Courtrai en tant qu'ancien institut d'hydrothérapie thermale. En 1994, la Fondation Interieur reçoit une 'mention honorable' décernée par le Prix Européen du Design, la plus prestigieuse récompense au niveau européen remise à des organisations non commerciales.
Interieur Foundation
The not-for-profit Interieur Foundation was set up in Kortrijk, Belgium, in 1967. Its main objective was 'the promotion of creativity in the field of contemporary design'.
The first Interieur Biennale for creative interior design took place the following year in the brand-new 'Hallen' in Kortrijk. The new venue was more than just another building for holding exhibitions, but rather a model venue: the local industry had insisted on such strict criteria that it became the most modern and up-to-date venue in Belgium at the time.
The Interieur Biennale has taken place every other year since, at the same venue, called 'Kortrijk Xpo' and expanded from 1 to 6 halls (from 6,020 to 30,815 sq m).
The autonomous not-for-profit Interieur Foundation originated within the Kortrijk Chamber of Commerce, where the original offices were located. In 1989, the Interieur offices moved to a listed 19th century patrician's house in the centre of Kortrijk. A former hydrotherapy institute, it is an important building in the social history of Kortrijk.
In 1994, the Interieur Foundation received an 'honorary mention' at the European Community Design Prize, the highest distinction possible for non-commercial organisations in this, the most prestigious European-wide design prize.
